The journey of Facebook has certainly been an interesting one.
Apart from that Jesse Eisenberg movie, it’s had its share of Facelifts, an influx of Zynga games, ads, privacy complaints and a rather lacklustre IPO.
But you know what? We all still use it. That’s because it’s a brilliant way for creators and creatives to meet and share advice in a simple-to-use forum – particularly for photographers.
From its simple photo management system to its subscription options and potential to reach thousands, Facebook is still the perfect hangout for creative photographers of all tastes and abilities.
But like the real world, getting what you need from it is all about who you know.

Some are well-established with bustling Facebook photography pages, and others are up-and-coming.

Dina Goldstein Photography
Commercial photography pays the bills, but Dina’s personal projects (and insanely popular Facebook page) are driven by creative projects such as her popular Fallen Princesses concept series of images depicting classic fairy tale heroines like Snow White at home with four babies, Cinderella drinking alone in a dive bar or – most disturbingly – a bald Rapunzel in a cancer ward.
Sue Bryce
You may not know her name, but you’ve probably seen one of Sue Bryce’s images. The tech-savvy queen of makeovers (and Australian Portrait Photographer of the Year three times running) was Tumbling and Tweeting long before the cool kids ever heard of Tumblr and Twitter, and her amazing before and after portraits have been shared more often than a Chinese secret.
Vivian Maier
OK, so we all know who Vivian Maier is by now and we won’t waste precious space recounting a story you’ve no doubt read on Huffington Post or Buzzfeed or any of those other must-stops along the internet. We’ll just briefly say this: Maier might be the best street photographer we’ve seen since Cartier-Bresson (if not better – gasp!), and it is frankly stunning that her incredible archive remained under wraps for 70 years. Her engagement with her subjects, her composition, her incredible knack for capturing the decisive moments is staggering. Subscribe to the Facebook page set up for her archive and you’ll be treated to a new image each day, often posted as they’re discovered.
TSO Photography
Terje Sørgjerd is a landscape photographer from Norway whose Facebook following stands at an impressive 318k. His stunningly beautiful time-lapse videos are not to be missed either.
Jack Fusco Photography
Leave yourself some time to peruse Jack Fusco’s Facebook photo albums (say that 10 times really fast) because his stunning night landscapes and astrophotography is worth more than just your lunch hour. Jack’s master of long exposures goes beyond the old adage of capturing the moment – Jack captures thousands of moments in one star-streaked frame. Call us star struck!
Jarrod Castaing Fine Art Photography
A fine art landscape photographer, Jarrod’s Facebook page should have about 40,000 more likes than it does – so go ‘like’ it now and you can be the cool guy who was into it way before it was popular. Jarrod’s specialty is capturing what he calls ‘those moments of light that only last for a few minutes, twice a day.’ And his patience is our reward.

Michael Bosanko – Light Graffiti
